Write a Letter Poem
This week, we covered the news of Kobe Bryant's retirement from professional basketball. To make his announcement, Bryant published a letter poem he had written titled "Dear Basketball." In the poem, he describes his love and memories for the sport in the form of a letter written to the sport itself:
You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.
For this week's contest, we want you to write a letter poem to an abstract or nonliving thing that you love. You can write your poem to a hobby, talent, favorite food, TV show or anything else you know and love. Whatever you choose, title your poem "Dear ___" and address the poem to that well-loved object or activity. Be sure to make your poem at least 15 lines long.
