First Friday!

Hi class!  I must say I lucked out again this year getting such a great group of kids.  I feel like we have had a great start to the year and I am looking forward to watching all of you grow personally and academically this year.

For homework, please do the following:

Reading: 25 minutes and complete a reading reflection (a summary and one question).  You will only need to do ONE reading reflection over the weekend if you did not get to finish yours today. (you can choose if you do this Friday, Saturday or Sunday).  To be extra clear, you should have a total of six entries up to date (one on Tuesday as a class, two on Wed., two on Thurs. and one for Friday).
Math: No homework.  We will start our math homework next week.  I apologize for those who feel like much of chapter one is review -- although it is review, it is helpful to cover and also lets me understand where exactly each one of you is at.
Vocabulary: You will get a new list of words on Monday.  I am very proud of all of your improvements -- make sure and share your quiz with your parents.
Writing: The rough draft of your "My Life" assignment should be done.  You will type up your final draft Monday and share it with me on googledocs.  (click "share" and type in: chelsey_evans@beaverton.k12.or.us)
Social Studies: We just started our unit on the Native Americans and the Explorers... we did not get to this material today, but we will on Monday.  Because of this change, you will take your quiz on facts 1-8 on Tuesday.  Please remember to give your parents the information on Geo-Themes!

Have fun with friends and family this weekend and be rested for next week!

Happy First Day!

FOR STUDENTS:

Hey class!

I must say I had an awesome day getting to work with all of you and am looking forward to getting to know you all better in the weeks/months to come.  Although things seem intense and may be a bit overwhelming, I promise that once you all get the hang of our class expectations and routines, you'll feel confident to dominate any challenge thrown at you.

Today we spent a lot of time going over routines, expectations and speaking to what all you will be learning this year.  I am excited that the rest of the week we will really get to delve into our curriculum.

At home tonight you should:

1.  Find a book to have at school for your "reading reflections" time after lunch.
2.  Study your new set of vocabulary words. You have a test on Friday.
3.  Give your manila packet of important papers to your parent(s) or guardian(s).
4.  Begin your word work.

I hope you all have a nice evening and get rested up for another exciting day of 5th grade :).

Ms. Evans

FOR PARENTS:

Hello!  I am excited that I have the privilege to work with you and your child.  I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you and hope to see you again at "back to school night" on Sept. 10th (for more information, visit http://www3.beaverton.k12.or.us/bethany/).  However, in the meantime, here are some important notes about our class:

1.  There are weekly vocabulary tests and your student has the materials they need in their binder.
2.  Students do not have a planner this year, but a weekly pink sheet they fill out that has all of their assignments listed on it.  Please ask to see it if they claim the following: "I don't have any homework."
3.  Students will be bringing home important papers from Bethany Elementary in a manila folder.  Please take a look at all of the information it provides and return the required papers.
4.  There is reading homework every night (reading response), however, there is no reading homework the first day of school.

I feel strongly that clear communication between home and school will only aid in your student's success.  Please feel free to email me at any time with any comments/questions/concerns you may have.  chelsey_evans@beaverton.k12.or.us

Thank you for being such a strong support in your child's life!

Hope to see you next week!

Respectfully,
Chelsey
