Wednesday

Hey, class!

We had a busy day today and I am proud of all of your efforts... please be aware of what is still to come this week:

Math: POW due Friday, coordinate graphing due tomorrow (my group)

Reading:  Reading Reflection

Writing:  The introduction (with your thesis), and the first two body paragraphs should be completed by tonight so you can finish the rest of your draft tomorrow and begin typing on Friday. Once you start typing your drafts in googledocs, I can give you feedback.

Science:  I am going to push back the body systems due date... I will give you work time tomorrow for your projects to see how far you can get.  After tomorrow, I will be able to give you a more accurate due date.  Reading group -- you will have a longer extension since you sometimes miss work time.

Vocab: WW10 is due Friday.  You have a cumulative test on Friday as well.  It is going to be difficult if you do not study.  Remember, although you may loathe these tests, I do this to prepare you for next year.  STUDY!!

Hope you all have a nice evening :).

Tuesday

Hey, class!

Sorry for my negligence yesterday -- I forgot to update the class website.

Math: POW due Friday. No homework for my group (testing day)

Class:  In the old days there were elevator operators to transport passengers. Don Downs always started his day in the basement. He went up 20 floors to take his boss some coffee. Then he went down 8 floors to take a Danish to his friend. He went up 7 floors to check things out. This was the halfway point in the building. How many floors are in this building? Draw a diagram to show how you would figure this out.

Challenge: Shawn bought a car for $5400. He sold it to Rachael for 5/6 the price he paid for it. Rachael sold it to Ray for 1/5 less than she paid for it. Ray sold it to Rick for 3/4 what he paid. Rick gave it to his sister for half of the price he bought it.  How much did she pay for it?

Writing: Pre-write outline should be completed (both sides).  You will start your draft tomorrow.

Vocab: WW10 due Friday.  You have a cumulative exam on Friday as well (units 7-10)

Science:  Your body systems final poster will be due Friday.  I will try to give you some more work time in class, but we are needing to allott more time towards social studies now.

Reading:  Reading reflection due tomorrow (question and summary)

Welcome Back

Hey, class! Sorry I am out sick today.  In case the sub was not clear, here is what is for homework.

Math: POW due Friday.

Class Question: Three watermelons and two cantaloupes weigh 32 pounds. Four watermelons and three cantaloupes weigh 44 pounds. All watermelons weigh the same and all cantaloupes weigh the same. What is the weight of two watermelons and one cantaloupe?

CHALLENEGE QUESTION (anyone who wants a challenge can work this out):
Monday, the Produce manager, Arthur Applegate, stacked the display case with 80 heads of lettuce. By the end of the day, some of the lettuce had been sold. On Tuesday, the manager surveyed the display case and counted the number of heads that were left. He decided to add an equal number of heads. (He doubled the leftovers.) By the end of the day, he had sold the same number of heads as Monday. On Wednesday, the manager decided to triple the number of heads that he had left. He sold the same number that day, too. At the end of this day there were no heads of lettuce left. How many were sold each day?

Writing: You should have completed your "representing both sides" activity from last week.  You will share these with the class tomorrow.

CHALLENGE (Due tomorrow at 8AM if you want to complete this):

Imagine your own holiday.

As popular legend tells it, we celebrate love on Valentine's Day because during Saint Valentine's life he performed marriages in the face of religious persecution. While little is known of Saint Valentine other than that he was buried on February 14, love continues to be his legacy centuries after his death. Imagine that centuries from now, people celebrate a holiday named after you. What would people to do on this holiday? Would they celebrate with particular kinds of gifts, foods or activities? What would be the main idea of the holiday?

Have a nice evening and be safe!

Monday

Hey class!  Here is your homework:

Math: Fraction Addition (all 15 problems -- show your work!)

Reading: Reading Reflection

Writing: Challenge due wed. by 8am.

Write from the point of view of an ancestor.

Think of a period in history. This can be any time that you want, be it forty years ago or four hundred years ago (or even earlier!). Now imagine the life of one of your ancestors living in that time. Where do they live? Do they go to school? What do they think of life in that time and place? (Note: This can be as creative as you want it to be and does not have to be an accurate historical account of your great-great-great grandparent's life, though it can be if you want!)

Vocab: WW7 due Friday, Quiz Friday

Have a nice evening :)
